Volunteers and staff worked closely together throughout Spring of 2004 to build a community garden
for the Hopland Pomo Tribe.  Each year, volunteers put in long, hard hours, designing, clearing,
disking, digging, planting, weeding, and contributing in so many ways to make the site a real
community project.  Soil is generally of very poor quality at Hopland, so we enrich the soil with
compost.  We have also installed an irrigation system on-site.

Tomatoes, squash, pumpkins, corn and other vegetables are grown in the garden, and the
community always looks forward to harvest-time!
Every Earth Day, there is a
gathering at the community
garden to bless the earth and to
celebrate groundbreaking.
Volunteers have constructed
picnic tables, BBQ grills have
been donated, and the site is
now a true gathering place for
Tribal members.
Volunteers Needed!!
We are always looking for more volunteers and funding.  To help out, please contact
the Tribal EPA Office at 744-1647, and speak with Phyllis Tobin (x1301) or Maura
Darbro (x1304).
